A Furious Love Is Hot on Your Trail!
Many believers feel stunted in their Christian growth. We beat ourselves up over our failures and, in the process, pull away from God because we subconsciously believe He tallies our defects and hangs His head in disappointment. In this newly repackaged edition—now with full appendix, study questions, and the author’s own epilogue, “Ragamuffin Fifteen Years Later,” Brennan Manning reminds us that nothing could be further from the truth. The Father beckons us to Himself with a “furious love” that burns brightly and constantly. Only when we truly embrace God’s grace can we bask in the joy of a gospel that enfolds the most needy of His flock—the “ragamuffins.”
Are you bedraggled, beat-up, burnt-out?
Most of us believe in God’s grace—in theory. But somehow we can’t seem to apply it in our daily lives. We continue to see Him as a small-minded bookkeeper, tallying our failures and successes on a score sheet.
Yet God gives us His grace, willingly, no matter what we’ve done. We come to Him as ragamuffins—dirty, bedraggled, and beat-up. And when we sit at His feet, He smiles upon us, the chosen objects of His “furious love.”
Brennan Manning’s now-classic meditation on grace and what it takes to access it—simple honesty—has changed thousands of lives. Now with a Ragamuffin’s thirty-day spiritual journey guide, it will change yours, too.
Includes a 30-Day Spiritual Journey Guide!
“Brennan Manning does a masterful job of blowing the dust off of shop-worn theology and allowing God’s grace to do what only God’s grace can do—amaze.”
-Max Lucado, Bestselling author of The Gift for All People
“I found deep comfort in realizing that Jesus loves even me, a ragamuffin, just as I am.”
-Michael Card, Musician, recording artist, and author of A Violent Grace
“This is a zestful and accurate portrayal that tells us unmistakably that the gospel is good, dazzlingly good.”
-Eugene Peterson, Author of The Message
Story Behind the Book
The world assigns value to people using measurable standards. Someone is a successful student if she receives As. Someone is a strong athlete if he runs five miles a day. The Lord, however, knows nothing of standards. The Ragamuffin Gospel was inspired by Brennan Manning after he discovered firsthand what it means to live by grace instead of performance. His words bring new life and sweet refreshment to Christians who are tired of never measuring up.

Amazon.com Review
Brennan Manning wrote The Ragamuffin Gospel "for the bedraggled, beat-up, and burnt-out," the marginalized folks to whom Jesus ministered: the children, the ill, the tax collectors, the women. In other words, the ragamuffins. Manning understands better than most that behind our facades of order and self-assurance are inadequacies that can find healing only in Jesus. While the powerful and religious elite challenged him, Jesus embraced and healed and fed the needs of the ragamuffins. Jesus delivered love, healing, and, most of all, grace.
Grace is defined as "the freely given and unmerited favor and love of God." But, as Manning points out, we have "twisted the gospel of grace into religious bondage and distorted the image of God into an eternal, small-minded bookkeeper." In reality, God offers us grace immeasurable. Brennan Manning gently encourages us to embrace that grace in the face of our greatest needs. And Manning certainly knows whereof he speaks, having taken a journey from priesthood and academic achievement through a collapse into alcoholism. Manning came face to face with his need, finally abandoning himself to grace. And he invites us now to join him in a life of grace.
Manning is without doubt one of the most eloquent writers on the subject of grace because he openly shares his own pain and struggle to help readers deal with failure and inadequacy. And he sweetly challenges them to do the same. --Patricia Klein

This Book is Life Changing.
By LaShawn
Absolutely inspiring. This is the type of book that combats the misunderstanding that churches are full of self-righteous perfect people. It shatters the model that so many Christians and Non-Christians hold in their mind as to what a Christian looks like. Guess what? It looks just like YOU, with all of your beautiful strengths and challenging flaws and benevolent acts and selfish, malevolent acts, love and weakness, dark secretive sin and bright transparent bits alike. It's a powerful reminder that Christ does not call us to "clean up our act first, then come to the Throne." Indeed, we cannot do that on our own or with merely the help of other people. I am a recovering alcoholic who struggled with the shame of falling under the pressure of my disease and my poor choices that fostered the disease (instead of fighting it). "I knew better and it still happened to me," was my thought process. This book reminded me of Christ's REAL unadulterated message and helped to fully restore me to right-relationship with my Father in Heaven to beat this thing, to maintain the strength to continue doing so, and to see my situation as it Truly is: There is no darkness in which He cannot find me and restore me. He doesn't care how nicely I dress on Sundays. He wants all of me, right now, this moment and every moment following. This was a book recommended to me from a pastor and addiction counselor. I bought 7 copies and gave them to family and friends who, both, struggle with addiction or not. Anyone who wants to know more about what Christ said on the church being only an institution of control, full of rule-following goody-goods, where people learn to build and wear masks of false joy to hide their inner bankruptcy ... here it is!

Are you a burnt out Christian?
By J. Crouse
If you are a Christian who's feeling kinda lost or burnt out, then you need to read "The Ragamuffin Gospel" by Brennan Manning. Brennan was a Franciscan monk who fought a lifelong battle with alcoholism, and left "the Church" to get married, only to find the one true Jesus! And, in finding Jesus he discovered that God LOVES us...period! Our Father in Heaven KNOWS we are all a bunch of imperfect, rag tag, ragamuffins wandering aimlessly through life without a clue. Oh, there are plenty of Christians who SAY they have it all figured out, or CLAIM that their denomination is the one true church...but, only God's LOVE sent to us in the physical being of Jesus matters! And who did Jesus spend his time with while He was here on Earth? Did he have power lunches with the big businessmen and corporate moguls of His day? NO. Did He concentrate on traveling from mega-church to mega-church to visit the big shot religious leaders? NO. No, he spent all His time with the people...the common people...often the people everyone shunned like tax collectors, prostitutes and the diseased!
I highly recommend "The Ragamuffin Gospel" by Brennan Manning...it has turned my life around and brought me back to a closer walk with Jesus. I hope it can do the same for you.

A Voice Crying in the Wilderness
By Philip Fennell
This is the second book by the late Brennan Manning that I have read, Signature of Jesus being the first. This is, without doubt, the one generally regarded as his magnum opus and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Written in a style that is easily and readily digested by those of us in the ragamuffin nation, he consistently makes his points in a lucid and, to use Os Guinness' phrase, heart cracking manner, tugging on our emotions with real situations as well as challenging us with clear, orthodox doctrine that is neither boring nor preachy. His raw honesty and deep humility are incredibly refreshing in a coarse time when even much of Christian teaching is filled with either graceless tomes or else increasingly abandon the essentials to curry favor with cultured despisers of the Gospel. Thankfully Brennan left us a legacy that fits well with those of Philip Yancey, Steve Brown and a number of others who are convinced (as I am) that the only thing we can truly do to honor Christ is to believe, trust and obey His Gospel with our utmost devotion. I heartily recommend this timeless book.
