I did like the Sneetches story and its message of tolerance. My going-on-4 daughter enjoyed the scene with both machines running at once. But then since the world is apparently 50% of each type of Sneetch, I sure wondered why the snubbed ones did not simply organize their own parties and games and get on with life. Why was their self esteem so dependent upon the opinions of others? It wasn't like they were being rounded up for the death camps or anything.

The Zax story was OK but came to such an abrupt halt that I don't think my daughter could really grasp it or get much out of it.

The story about the empty pants running around was just bizarre. The guy asks "What was I afraid of?" but let me tell you if I ever saw pants running around with nobody in them and no strings attached I'd sure as heck be scared too. In fact I'd run for my life and hopefully let some other poor bastard be the hero to figure out what was going on there.

"Too many Daves"... Well what is even the point of this story?

to have fun, and not be left out in the dark

The Sneetches, written by Dr. Seuss, is an outstanding story. In this story the plain belly Sneetches are left out of all the activities that the Sneetches with stars on their bellies do. All the plain belly Sneetches wanted to do was join in and feel welcome, to have fun, and not be left out in the dark. One day a man came with a machine to add stars to the plain belly Sneetches' bellies. The Sneetches were delighted, but the star belly Sneetches were not. Since the man was a very devious man he had a solution for the Sneetches with stars on their bellies. Dr. Seuss's story of the Sneetches is descriptive, giving the reader a clear image. There is a profound moral to this story. I would rate it 5 out 5 stars.

Reading is good, however typical Kindergarteners cannot usually read this much ...

These are not worksheets the average kindergartener in public school can do by themselves. Especially in the beginning of the year. There are multiple problems on each page with different directions to follow for each one. They need to read quite a bit to solve the problem. Reading is good, however typical Kindergarteners cannot usually read this much within the first semester of school. If I was to pass this out, I would have to read each one aloud and we would have to go together or they would be coming up to me for every problem. This seems more like first grade to me. I sent it back.

Great for teachers and homeschoolers! !

I use these books for homeschooling to start off each of the required 180 days. It helps me to keep track of how many days we have done and it allows me to see what we have done in math each day. Each page has different types of problems, so the kids don't get bored. They are truly grade appropriate work. The additional CD is nice, so you can print out pages again and have a file on hand. These would be truly great for "morning work" activities for teachers.
Would definitely buy these each year. I just with they made them for spelling, language arts science. etc.

Fun and engaging for budding scholars

Bought for my daughter - she loves doing the exercises, something I've had problems with in other activity books. Each page has a pattern of 6 activities that are consistent in their theme from page to page. Some are easy for her, but some are getting more challenging (which is good). Highly recommend.

This was a great read for those of us who beat up on ...

This was a great read for those of us who beat up on ourselves about our creativity. He made me laugh all the way through the book and I sat and read the entire book in one sitting! I just couldn't put it down. This is a book that I can go to when I feel like my monkey mind is chattering out of control and it inspires me to embrace my creative side and to encourage others who feel they are not good enough. Doodling, sketching and doing my art again was revived by Danny Gregory because of his story and passion to do what you love. I love doing my art and I found my passion that was lost so many years ago. I will not ever give up on myself again. Thanks Danny!

It's worth the time and money invested in it!!

I'll preface this by saying that I'm a fan of Danny Gregory; he's seen a lot, he's done a lot, and he's been through a lot. In short, I believe he knows what he's talking about. But . . . as I read through Shut Your Monkey, I kept thinking, "How did he get inside of my head?" I had never realized before - really - that ALL of us have our own monkeys with which we have to deal, and this realization - intellectually and emotionally - helped me a lot. Now, I know I'm not a "basket case", but I do know that self-doubt and insecurity have held me back in several instances. Danny Gregory's book helped me bring my monkey out in the open where I could deal with it, suggested several excellent coping mechanisms that do work, and even went so far as suggesting some "banishing mechanisms." I can't yet vouch personally for the banishing mechanisms, because they are long-term behavioral changes and I just read the book about two weeks ago. However, I can say this without hesitation: this book has helped me, and I'll probably read it several more times in the future. It was definitely worth my time and money.

I love this little book

Ohhhh, I love this little book. When I purchased it, I was in a deep, bad creative rut. About a third of the way through, I felt encouraged and equipped with the mental tools to just get back to creative work. I am a huge fan of Danny Gregory's books and paintings, and this book is no exception. If you are feeling stuck and like quitting art forever, read this book. It's genuinely helpful.

Great Book. A MUST READ for UNDER Class A.

This book is simply amazing.

This book had 534 problems-that's alot!(not even comparable to Polgar's 5334, but that's a little too much...isn't it?)

Very thin and light. Easy to carry to anywhere-trains, subs, cars, etc.

Diagrams are easy to see, not like some which have weird diagrams that's not even understandable.

The diagrams may be a little small, but they are enough to see the combinations.

Bottom Line: If you're struggling with tactics and under Class A(1800~1999)....

Over 500 Tactics

There are over 500 different tactics positions to work on and solve. They are arranged by type of tactic so you can focus on the type of tactic you like. The answers are in the back (would have rather had them at the bottom of the page so I wouldn't have to go all the way to the back each time).

Some of the tactics are harder than others so there is a variety. This is in a work book style. I also learned a lot of good opening tactics from "Winning Chess Traps" that i also recommend. If you learn tactics you will win a lot more games.

The best thing for study, ok for entertainment as well

This book is wonderful for helping you see patterns that can occur in your games. The positions are very practical. The best thing I like about this book is that there are hardly any errors (that I can find!). Secondly, the puzzles are made so that there is usually only one correct solution, not a billion other possible ones. This is a major plus. I've heard that many of the positions in this book were taken from Combination Challenge, and many of the positions from Combination Challenge were taken from Reinfeld's 1001 book. THis makes me want to look into Reinfeld's books more.
My suggestion would be that, if you are class D or C you should buy this book because it's a great value (only $10 and it has 534 problems), the organization by theme is great, the positions are very practical, there are no errors (I only found 1 and I am almost done with the book) and most puzzles have only one solution. If you are a better chess player than this, I recommend 1001 Chess Sacrafices and Combinations. This is the type of book who's patterns you would want to drill in your head because they are so practical and recurring. I've been through the book once and plan to go through it 3 or 4 or 5 times. Overall, a great book.

This book is fantastic. It's it very in depth regarding dinosaur phylogeny which is exactly what I was looking for. I wouldn't recommend it to someone without some biology background but if you are looking for a more recent, scientifically in-depth book on the subject this is wonderful!

profound and useful

To read this book, you will need to be aware of the comparative anatomy basis at least. A good knowledge of the osteology is highly recommended. "The Dinosauria" is rather a heavy one both in sense of its own weight and its style and content. You can hardly carry it to lessons or anywhere else, so that this book is for home reading only. It might be better to choose e-book item.

Excellent reference work

Our grandson requested this book for Christmas. We were very surprised at the incredibly detailed and scientific text, but Henry is 12 and has all the other reference works so we bought it for him. His Mother says he will be thrilled, so we're confident that our future paleontologist will be pleased.

Great resource for tour guides!

Joemy Wilson has written a wonderful resource for tour guides. Her short book is filled with the characteristics needed by guides who want to give the best experience possible to the travelers they assist.

As the author points out, it is often the best guides who have been guiding for many years that fall into traps and make mistakes that spoil the travelers' experiences. Because of that, this book, which is appropriate for both new guides and the very experienced ones - and for tour directors as well, serves to remind those of us in the guide business just how to make sure that our guests have the trip of a lifetime!
