"With training in mathematics, statistics, and economics, Michael Sullivan, III has a varied teaching background that includes 15 years of instruction in both high school and college-level mathematics. He is currently a full-time professor of mathematics at Joliet Junior College. Michael has numerous textbooks in publication, including an Introductory Statistics series, and a Precalculus series, which he writes with his father, Michael Sullivan. Michael believes that his experiences writing texts for college-level math and statistics courses give him a unique perspective as to where students are headed once they leave the developmental mathematics tract. This experience is reflected in the philosophy and presentation of his developmental text series. When not in the classroom or writing, Michael enjoys spending time with his three children, Michael, Kevin, and Marissa, and playing golf. Now that his two sons are getting older, he has the opportunity to do both at the same time! Kathy Struve, "Columbus State Community College
"Kathy Struve has been a classroom teacher for nearly 25 years, first at the high school level, and, for the past 13 years, at Columbus State Community College. Kathy emphasizes classroom diversity: diversity of age, learning styles, and previous learning success. She is aware of the challenges of teaching mathematics at a large, urban community college, where students have varied mathematics backgrounds, and may enter college with a high level of mathematics anxiety. Kathy served as Lead Instructor of the Developmental Algebra sequence at Columbus State where she developed curriculum and provided leadership toadjunct faculty in implementing graphing calculator technology in the classroom. She has authored classroom activities at the Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra levels and conducted workshops at local, state, and national conferences on both integrating graphing calculator applications into the curriculum and developing varied forms of assessment. This textbook incorporates her 25 years of experience in addressing the individual needs of students.

It's a Statistics book. That is all.

It's what I needed for this semester. I don't mind the highlighting, but the binder it came in could have been better. I bought it used. Be aware, this is the unbound version meant for binders. Surprised it came with the CD when I bought it! Nice save, seller!

About the Author
Sondra is the author of six books, among them, Landmark Essays on Writing Process; Felt Sense: Writing with the Body; 'Stepping on My Brother's Head' and Other Secrets Your English Professor Never Told You, creative nonfiction essays written by well-known writing teachers across the county and co-edited with Charles Schuster; and On Austrian Soil: Teaching Those I Was Taught to Hate, a memoir that tells the story of what happened to Sondra when she found herself teaching Austrian teachers whose parents had been Nazis. This book was a finalist in the 2006 Independent Booksellers Award for memoir and led to the creation of the Holocaust Educators Network, which Sondra now directs at the Memorial Library in New York City. A professor of English at Lehman College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Sondra has received numerous awards and honors including a Guggenheim fellowship and the Professor of the Year Award from the Carnegie Foundation. Cole's ongoing quest to rescue friends and findfour lost princesses in the dreamlike Outskirts takes him to a land where theborder between life and death is permeable.Gaining and losing various alliesand princesses as he goes, Cole journeys through both Necronum, populated bythe living and also spectral "echoes," and the "echolands,"a sort of borderland halfway house for the dead, on the way to a face-off withthe demonic shapecrafter Nazeem. As if the cast wouldn't already fill a bus,Mull trots in even more characters—including some from his Beyonders series—ashe pushes his young hero into a drawn-out series of chases and races both afootand atop a mysterious magical horse. The author spins a big, fluent, notentirely earnest yarn, but he seems to be stuck on certain plot devices.Infodumps (along with side topics like the meaning of life), for instance, arerepeatedly delivered through extended question-and-answer sessions that readlike magazine interviews, and so often does Cole hear some variation on "Idon't know, but I can tell you who might," that even he finally slaps hisforehead: "No offense, but do you know how many times I've heardthis?" But, by the end Nazeem has been temporarily stymied, Cole hasacquired shapecrafting powers of his own, and the ducks are queuing for theupcoming climax. Missing the usual Mull Magic

There were parts where the author dragged too much on the details of the Echolands. It was annoying how the protagonist was led to one place that would lead him to another place in order to find the information he was looking for. It's as frustrating as going through a lot of bureaucratic red tape.

I also expected more of the crossover with his Beyonder Series but was rather disappointed. I don't know... it just seems that he was "killing pages" (like killing time) by going over those details. The action didn't come until towards the last couple of chapters-- which felt it was forced. The good thing is that, he wrote the "action scenes" so well which sort of redeemed the drag the story took on in the middle. Those last scenes became the oasis - the saving grace of this particular installment which explains my rating. It only goes to show that Mull is truly a wonderful story weaver if he probably didn't have to cover the required number of pages. Oh well, that's just my assumption though. The bottomline is that, this book didn't seem to have the usual Mull magic that was spread out in his other books. Of course I know and understand how tough writing a book is but also know he can do waaaaaayyyy much better.

The important question is... would I still want to read the final installment? It's a big YES. I still have faith in how he will complete the story. I had a blast reading his Beyonders and Fablehaven series. I am expecting something that would make me want to read the entire series all over again.

Next book please!

I've recently made a point of going back and reading some of my favorite childhood novels. But now 5 years later, and being 16, those books just never live up to my earlier thoughts and praise. They seem to be so childish and the plot line so clich�, I just couldn't handle it. But reading this book now, I'm amazed. This author is fabulous and you can tell that he has some great writing skills just from a few lines. "His gums shown wetly as he smiled my way." Now I'm not sure if that's the correct wording, but I just remember that line as being important and well said. Besides that awesome fact though, you can also tell that Brandon Mull puts many many many months of thought into his plot line. I can just imagine the board on the wall full of pine and red string connecting everything in the plot to one another. It's fantastic. If you love books, read this one. Please.

I added this series to my list of favorites along with Fable Haven and the Beyonders and of course Candy Shop Wars. About the Author

Paul Coggle is an experienced university teacher of German, who has taught courses from beginner to postgraduate level. He was a pioneer in the development and use of multimedia language learning materials at the University of Kent, and has acted as a Language Consultant for the BBC and the University of Cambridge Language Centre. He is series editor for the Teach Yourself language courses. Heiner Schenke was born in Hannover and is a native speaker of German. A MUST HAVE before getting any cosmetic dental work done!

I got this book when I decided I wanted to improve my smile before my wedding. Prior to this book I was clueless about dental cosmetic procedures, and now that I have read Change Your Smile, I feel like a dental pro. Armed with the book, I went to my local dentist and was able to ask intelligent questions about each possible procedure that would specifically help me in my case. I felt much more comfortable since the book taught me what to ask, what to expect and what price to pay. My favorite aspects of the book were:
- The great photos that show the before and after for each case.
- The straight forwardness of the text, which made the book easy to understand and consumer friendly while still being very detailed.
- The charts at the end of each chapter. These 2-page charts titled `Which solution is best for you?' include the treatment time, maintenance, results, cost, advantages, and disadvantages for each procedure and depending on the specific smile challenge. These charts were concise and for me completly life savers.
An added bonus with Change Your Smile was a chapter towards the end titled `Finishing Touches'. It included several helpful beauty tips on topics such as skin treatments and make-up. I also invested a lot of time in the section about hair that explains which haircuts go best with each specific facial shape. The best part is that it not only explains the haircut, it actually shows good and bad haircuts for each type, this was very helpful.
Overall, I feel it is thanks to Change Your Smile that I got the smile of my dreams for the wedding of my dreams.

I Changed My Smile

I first had the occasion to read an earlier edition of Change Your Smile in 1990. I was in the Waiting Room at the Medical College of Georgia. I was there for my first leap into the world of Student Comestic Denistry.

I began my road of changing my smile that day. Then I: (4)" Cracked down" (6) "Found what was lost" (8) "Found Closure" and (9)"Straightened up and smiled right". Now I: (10) "Don't Gum up the Works" (12) Have the Finishing Touches.

Dr. G's new book shows you How It's Done. You can follow along with contouring, veneers,crowns and etc. and Change Your Smile.
